Despite their recent split, Ben Affleck continues to express admiration for his estranged wife, Jennifer Lopez. In a recent interview, the 52-year-old actor and director offered glowing comments about Lopez’s performance in their upcoming film, Unstoppable, where she plays the mother of a one-legged wrestler.

Affleck, who co-produced Unstoppable with Matt Damon through their company, Artists Equity, was joined by Cillian Murphy for a chat with Entertainment Tonight. When asked about Lopez’s role in the film, Affleck didn’t hold back his praise.

“Jennifer is absolutely spectacular in Unstoppable,” Affleck said. He went on to discuss the dedication of the entire cast, including Lopez, Don Cheadle, and Jharrel Jerome, praising the deep emotional connection they all brought to the project. “When people are truly passionate about the story, that’s when the magic happens,” Affleck noted. “We’re really proud of this one.”

Unstoppable is based on the true story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who, born with only one leg, overcame the odds to win a national championship in 2011. Lopez stars as Robles’ mother in the inspiring film, which also features Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, and Jharrel Jerome.

Although Affleck and Lopez’s marriage ended earlier this year, with Lopez filing for divorce in August, the actor has remained supportive of her work. Affleck had previously spoken fondly about working alongside Lopez on Unstoppable, describing it as a joy to collaborate with his wife at the time. “It was such a fun experience—going to work with your best friend, with someone you admire,” he said in March 2023.

The couple had been married for two years before Lopez filed for divorce, citing their separation date as April 26, 2024. Lopez was filming Kiss of the Spider Woman in New York at the time, a project she is co-producing with Affleck. The couple had completed their work on Unstoppable earlier in the year.

At the world premiere of Unstoppable at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, just weeks after the divorce filing, Lopez attended the event while Affleck did not. Lopez was seen chatting and holding hands with longtime friend Matt Damon at the after-party, sparking speculation about their close relationship. Sources close to the stars say Lopez and Damon remain very close, despite her split from Affleck.

Though their marriage is ending, the couple’s divorce has not yet been finalized. There have been reports that they did not have a prenuptial agreement in place. Lopez has also not requested spousal support and has asked the court to deny Affleck’s request for it.

While their relationship may have come to an end, Affleck’s respect for Lopez and her work seems as strong as ever.
