Liam Payne Reportedly Collapsed in Hotel Lobby Before Tragic Fall, According to ‘Nightline’ Documentary
A recent episode of ABC’s “Nightline” documentary series reveals that Liam Payne was seen collapsing in the lobby of his Buenos Aires hotel shortly before his untimely death.
The documentary, part of the "Impact x Nightline" series, aired on Thursday and highlighted the former One Direction member’s final days in Argentina, culminating in his fall from the balcony of his third-floor room at CasaSur Palermo on October 16.
An unnamed eyewitness recounted multiple encounters with Payne during his stay, describing him as disruptive and visibly frustrated. “He was seen smashing his laptop in the lobby,” the witness shared, noting that he ultimately passed out in the hotel’s lobby.
Payne had recently checked into the CasaSur hotel after allegedly being asked to leave another hotel for causing disturbances and appearing intoxicated. While it’s unclear how he returned to his room after passing out, early reports indicated he may have needed assistance to reach his suite.
Emergency services were called around 5 p.m. when hotel staff reported a guest who seemed intoxicated and was causing a mess in his room. When responders arrived, they found that Payne had already fallen from the balcony. A preliminary autopsy indicated he died from multiple injuries, with findings suggesting he had a mix of drugs in his system, including substances known to induce hallucinations.
Following his tragic passing, images from his hotel room showed signs of disarray, including a damaged TV and drug paraphernalia. Buenos Aires police conducted a raid at the hotel, seizing computer hard drives and surveillance footage as part of their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Authorities are currently investigating the source of the drugs found in Payne’s system, focusing on a Dove soap box found in his room, which they suspect might have been used to discreetly transport narcotics. The investigation remains active.
